Timanfaya Camel Ride

The Timanfaya camel ride at the Echadero de los Camellos: where it is, €11 a person in cash for about 20 minutes (Oct 2026), and the tours that stop there.

Updated October 2026

The Timanfaya camel ride starts at the Echadero de los Camellos, on the road from Yaiza at the southern edge of the national park, and takes you by dromedary along the slopes of the volcanoes. It is never part of a tour price: you pay in cash at the Echadero, €11 a person, the fare the national park’s board published in August 2022 and the latest tariff found in October 2026. The surest way to get there without a car is a tour that stops at the Echadero, such as First Minute Travel’s park tour, from US$66 a person (checked October 2026).

Where the camels are

Map of southern Lanzarote with Timanfaya National Park shaded, Islote de Hilario inside it, the Echadero de los Camellos at its southern edge, the Mancha Blanca visitor centre to the north-east, Yaiza and Uga to the south, El Golfo on the west coast, and Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen on the south coast
The Echadero de los Camellos sits at the southern edge of the park, on the road up from Yaiza and Uga to Islote de Hilario.

The Echadero de los Camellos is on the LZ-67, the road that climbs north from Yaiza towards Islote de Hilario, at the southern edge of the park. It lies on the road before the park’s access control, so with a car you can stop on the way in or out. The rides are a local trade run by the camel men of Uga under licences issued by the Yaiza town council; the fare is set by the national park’s governing board.

What it costs and what to bring

There is no ticket to book. You pay at the Echadero, in cash, per person: €11, the fare the national park’s board published in August 2022 (€9.50 when pre-booked through an agency), the latest tariff found in October 2026; tour operators tell passengers to budget about €12. The park lists the ride at about 20 minutes over 250 metres. Bring coins and small notes, closed-toe shoes for the ash underfoot, and sun protection: there is no shade on the slope.

Is the camel ride for you?

It suits children and anyone who wants a slow, high view of the lava slopes, and it fits into your tour’s stop rather than needing a booking of its own. It suits less if you are nervous of animals or have back problems. The rides have their critics among animal-welfare groups; the Yaiza council licenses the camel men, and in April 2026 it backed them in a unanimous institutional declaration.

For the rest of the visit, the volcano route and Islote de Hilario, see the Timanfaya National Park tour.
