El Diablo Restaurant in Timanfaya

El Diablo, the restaurant at Islote de Hilario in Timanfaya: meat grilled over a 5 m well at about 250 degrees, a César Manrique dining room, no reservations, and the tours that give you time to eat (Oct 2026).

Updated October 2026

El Diablo is the restaurant at Islote de Hilario, in the middle of Timanfaya National Park, where meat and vegetables are grilled over a well five metres deep in which the earth reaches around 250 degrees (CACT Lanzarote, October 2026). It takes no reservations: tables go to whoever arrives first. The restaurant is part of the Montañas del Fuego visit, so you reach it with a park ticket or on a tour that leaves time there, such as First Minute Travel’s park tour, from US$66 a person (checked October 2026).

The grill and the building

The grill is the reason people come: it stands over a well about five metres deep, and the heat of the earth at the bottom, around 250 degrees, cooks the meat and vegetables above it. César Manrique designed the building, a round dining room whose large circular glass wall looks out over the lava field, the malpaís. Inside, the counters are shaped like the socos, the half-moon stone walls that shelter the vines of La Geria, the lamps are made from hand-forged pans, and in the centre is the Jardín Muerto, a dead garden with the skeleton of a dromedary. The signature dessert is a chocolate brownie served as a volcano.

Getting a table

El Diablo stands at Islote de Hilario, the star in the middle of the park, where the coaches leave.
  • No reservations. Tables are given on a first-come, first-served basis, as available when you arrive.
  • Lunch only. The park’s visit runs from 09:00 to 15:45, and the Tinajo town council’s listing gives the restaurant’s hours as 12:00 to 16:00 every day.
  • With children. The restaurant and the cafeteria have high chairs.
  • Not in the ticket. The park ticket covers the coach route and the demonstrations; the meal is paid at the restaurant.

Which tours leave time to eat?

On the shortest tours you have about a quarter of an hour at Islote de Hilario, enough for the heat demonstrations but not for lunch. First Minute Travel’s park tour, rated 4.4 from 1,055 reviews, schedules free time in the service area there, El Diablo included, before the camel Echadero and La Geria, and is back at your hotel around 14:00. With a car you can do as you like: book an entry time around noon, take the coach first and eat after.
