The Best Time to Visit Timanfaya

When to visit Timanfaya: open every day 09:00 to 15:45, so book the slot first; mild in winter, about 29 °C highs in August, no shade on the lava. What to wear and bring (Oct 2026).

Updated October 2026

The best time to visit Timanfaya is any day you can book an entry time for: the park is open every day of the year, from 09:00 to 15:45, and the visit is sold online only, by time slot, so the slot decides your day more than the season does (CACT Lanzarote, October 2026). The weather is mild all year, from about 21 °C highs in January to about 29 °C in August, and the lava fields have no shade, so an early slot is the comfortable one in summer. If you have a car and want a short visit, Canary Trip Booking’s express from Yaiza is from US$64 a person, rated 4.6 from 383 reviews (checked October 2026).

The park is open in every season. Winter days are mild, around 21 °C at midday, with the odd rainy day; summer is dry and hot, and the black lava gives no shade. Watch for calima, the Saharan dust that hazes the views: the national park’s page posts alerts for it, as it did with a pre-alert on 26 October 2026.

By time of day

The first entries are at 09:00 and the last at 15:45. A morning slot is cooler in summer and leaves the afternoon free; an entry around noon fits lunch at El Diablo, which serves from midday and takes no bookings. A time shown as unavailable when you buy is already full, so book once your plans are fixed. For the park after the day visitors have gone, there is the evening tour with dinner, and for an early small-group visit, CACT’s Experiencia Insólita starts at 08:45 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

What to wear and bring

  • Closed-toe shoes. The ground at Islote de Hilario is uneven, rough and slippery in places.
  • Sun protection and water, whatever the month.
  • A warm layer for the evening tour, which goes on after dark.
  • Cash if you want the camel ride at the Echadero; the camel ride guide has the fare.
  • Your ticket and time, if you go on your own: arrive 15 minutes early, since late arrivals lose their entry and tickets cannot be changed.

Leave the lava where it lies: taking volcanic material from the park is not allowed.
